Christopher Tolman’s motor sport heritage began long before Tolman Motorsport was ever thought about. Petrol was in the family bloodline, his father Mike having worked in the industry alongside such well known luminaries as Paul Burch and Richard Guy, all of whom were closely linked to the Rootes/Peugeot/Talbot brands.

After gaining his engineering qualifications with the Ministry of Defence and competing at club level, Chris then embarked on a career in professional motorsport which would take him all over the world...

1998

Build and run Peugeot 205s in the Stock Hatch series, fourth in the championship.

1999

Start at Prodrive as Engine Technician working mostly on the Ford Mondeo BTCC engines.

2000

Prodrive 2000 BTCC champions!

2000

Start at Mitsubishi Ralliart Europe late 2000, Rally GB first rally with the team.

2001

Sub assembly and rally technician at Ralliart Europe – Monte Carlo win a highlight.

2002

Last “proper” Safari Rally, Kenya.

2003

Join Mitsubishi Motor Sports (MMSP) Test Team on new WRC car development.

2004

Continue in Test Team and event support.

2005

Engine department at MMSP, continued development and event support.

First cancer diagnosis and treatment

2006

Return to Rallye Monte Carlo.

2006

Cancer returns, more treatment, life begins again.

2007

Finish and drive my Peugeot 205 MI16 race car for the first time.

Start Tolman Motorsport Ltd

Support Formula Renault team

Move Tolman Motorsport into new Marton premises

Build Mitsubishi Evolution IX race car

Build Aquila CR1 race car, Britcar 24hr lap record with Rob Huff

Continue development of Evolution IX race car

Start new race team with Ian Ingram, Ginetta G20 in British GT support series

2013

Run 2 x Ginetta G20 in British GT support series

2014

Expand Race team to run 2 x Ginetta G20 and 1 G40

2015

Tolman Motorsport’s first GT4 car (Ginetta G55) in British GT. Pole position on first race, lap record at Oulton Park.

2016

Development and running of Ginetta’s G55 GT3 car on behalf of the factory

2016

Winning the "Whitsun Trophy" on a glorious rainy day at Goodwood

2017

First customer GT4 McLaren 570S, multiple wins in British GT

2018

Tolman Motorsport win the contract for McLaren Automotive’s Driver Development Programme. Now running three GT4 McLarens in British GT

2019

McLaren Driver Development Program continues

2020

Plug pulled on DDP due to world events, begin dreaming about Peugeots.

2021

Successful return to British GT with a GT3 Bentley at Donington Park.

2021

Work on the first Tolman Edition car.

2022

Finish the original Tolman Edition Peugeot and start development of the “evolution” version.

2022

Tolman Edition Peugeot 205 GTi appears on Top Gear

2023

A successful week at Le Mans with Gary Furst and the Lola T212

2023

Two car 205 GTi roadtrip to Musee de l’Aventure Peugeot at Sochaux in France for a weekend of celebration of the 40 year anniversary of the Peugeot 205. A rapturous reception cements Tolman Engineering’s relationship with Peugeot in France.

A brilliant podium finish in Classic Endurance at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar
